Characteristics

It is the largest mudskipper species in Taiwan. Its body length ranges from 10 to 15 cm, and its body color is brown like the mudflat. This mudskipper is covered in multiple sapphire blue spots on the body. The dorsal fins have a higher coverage spots, which becomes prominent during when the fin is displayed. It has muscularized pectoral fins and sucker-shaped pelvic fins that can be used to lift its body up and paddle itself forward.

Distribution

The blue-spotted mudskipper appears in muddier mudflats at Gaomei Wetlands.
